Believe it or not, a good bit of thought goes into my creative output, in particular where exactly in my figurative empire that output fits best. Should I post an article here, or behind a paywall on my Patreon? Is the idea better served in readable text, or does it function more smoothly spoken conversationally on a podcast? Would people rather read it, or hear it?

Our universe will never again see a personality like Stan Lee. For the most part, that’s not a good thing. But one must understand and accept that Stan’s career was very much of its time. What he became in his final years was a calculated maneuver, the bookend of a carefully managed and marketed existence. I say that not out of judgment, but out of respect, however begrudging that respect might occasionally be. More than perhaps anyone else, Stan Lee was comic books.

Artistic success isn’t measured in money; it’s measured in eyeballs. As in, how many land on your artwork.

Part of it’s luck, part is talent, and part is timing. Not just the timing of your output, but that of your birth, and the period in which you exist. The quality of stimuli available during your receptive phase. For example, growing up reading comic books drawn by gifted inkers, like Jack Kirby and Neal Adams. Continue reading →
